Blueberry Limeade

Frozen blueberries are a staple at our house, whether we’re adding them to smoothies or spooning them over oatmeal. We always have some on hand, and because they pair so naturally with fresh limes, they’re an easy way to turn a classic limeade into something a little different.

But this is still very much a limeade—the blueberries add subtle berry flavor and vibrant color while letting the lime remain the focus.

— Start with 1/2 cup of sugar if you like it on the tart side, or add more as desired.

Blueberry Limeade

  • Servings: 6 servings

Ingredients

  • 5 cups water
  • 1/2 cup freshly squeezed lime juice
  • 1/2 cup sugar, or to taste
  • 1/2 cup frozen blueberries
  • 2 tablespoons water

Directions

Add 5 cups of water, the lime juice, and sugar to a pitcher and stir well.

Heat the berries and 2 tablespoons of water in a saucepan; cover and simmer on low for 5 minutes. If it looks like the liquid is going to boil away, add a little more water. The berries will release juice as they cook.

Halfway through simmering, mash the berries with a fork.

Remove from heat, uncover, and cool for about 5 minutes. Add 1/2 cup of the limeade to the pan to provide enough liquid for straining. Pour the mixture through a sieve set over the pitcher. Use the back of a spoon to press the berries and extract the liquid. Discard the solids, then stir well to combine. Serve in glasses filled with ice.
